Same plant, different export files
Indonesia is the largest volume origin. Its trade ministry rules, revised through 2024 and 2025, restrict what may leave the country: the public statement from the Minister of Trade is that crumbs and powder under 600 microns may be exported, and material at or above 600 microns is treated as raw material and may not. Thailand exports under the Kratom Plant Act B.E. 2565 (2022), with an ONCB licence and a per-shipment notice. Leaf is a normal Thai export format.
Neither sentence is a quality ranking, and neither is your import law. Request a B2B quote with format, volume and destination. We reply within 1 business day. Kratom Thai Exports coordinates Thai supply. We do not sell Indonesian lots.
Country-level sourcing language is on Sourcing. Powder cuts we actually quote are on bulk kratom powder and in mesh sizes.
Comparison from the published rules
The cells below are a reading aid. They are not a substitute for the regulation or for the quote. Indonesian citations: the Minister of Trade, reported by the Ministry on 28 February 2025 (https://www.kemendag.go.id/berita/pojok-media/mendag-ungkap-tanaman-kratom-belum-bisa-dijual-di-dalam-negeri-tapi-bisa-diekspor), and the Ministry's March 2025 note on Permendag No. 8 of 2025 and Permendag No. 9 of 2025, in force 10 March 2025 (https://www.kemendag.go.id/berita/pojok-media/mendag-terbitkan-dua-permendag-untuk-ekspor-pertambangan-dan-kehutanan-ini-isinya). ANTARA reported the kratom portion of Permendag 9/2025 the same month. Read the current text on jdih.kemendag.go.id before you rely on a summary. Thai practice on this site is the ONCB licence plus a notice at least seven business days before export, as described in How ordering works.
| Topic | Thailand | Indonesia |
|---|---|---|
| Legal basis | Kratom Plant Act B.E. 2565 (2022). Trade lawful since 24 August 2021. | Ministry of Trade rules, including Permendag 20/2024 and the March 2025 amendments (Permendag 8/2025 and 9/2025). |
| Export permission | ONCB licence held by the licensed exporter, plus a per-shipment notice at least 7 business days before export. | Exporter registration and the technical conditions in the Trade Ministry rules, including grinder capacity and the kratom export-right percentage (PHEK). |
| Formats the rule talks about | Leaf and leaf powder are the main reported export formats. Extract is a separate specification. | Minister, 28 February 2025: crumbs and powder under 600 microns may be exported. At or above 600 microns is treated as raw and not for export. |
| Documents | ONCB licence details, shipment notice, invoice, packing list, transport document, origin and phytosanitary certificates where required, lot CoA when agreed. | The exporter's Indonesian permits plus the buyer's destination set. Confirm the current list with the exporter and with kemendag.go.id. |
| Laboratory panel | Lot CoA on request for the analytes in the quote. A test that was not bought is not on the certificate. | Permendag 9/2025, as described by the Ministry, points bacterial limits at BPOM No. 29 of 2023. Ask for the lot panel rather than assuming it. |
| Lead time | Sample, production, at least 7 business days of notice, then freight. The quote states the dated plan. | We do not publish Indonesian production or permit timing. Compare the written quote. |
Spec talking points, cited, not promised
Mitragynine. The Frontiers in Pharmacology paper of 22 October 2026 proposes a leaf band of about 0.5% to 2.5% mitragynine by dried weight (doi 10.3389/fphar.2026.1925809). That is a research definition. It is not the result on a lot, and it is not a promise that Thai leaf prints inside that band. If you need a number, name the target and the basis, and read it on the certificate.
Mesh and microns. We quote two Thai cuts: 80 to 100 mesh, and 200 mesh. The Indonesian public cutoff in the minister's February 2025 statement is 600 microns, which is about a 30-mesh screen. Both cuts we quote are finer than that screen. The cutoff is an export-format rule for Indonesia, not a quality score, and it is not a reason to prefer a finer powder. Particle size still belongs in your specification. See mesh sizes.
Moisture, microorganisms and heavy metals. Name them if you want them on the certificate. We do not claim that every lot is tested for heavy metals or microorganisms. The panel is the one in the quote, whether the origin conversation started in Thailand or somewhere else.
Buyer checklist before you compare two offers
Line the offers up on the same columns. A lower price on a format the origin cannot legally export is not a comparable offer. A higher mitragynine number without a basis is not a comparable offer either.
- Which licence or registration covers this shipment, and in whose name
- Whether the format (leaf, powder cut, extract) is one that origin allows out
- Lot CoA scope, method, basis and lot number
- One origin on the invoice, the certificate of origin and the packs
- Destination rules, including state and city, checked by you
- Incoterms, payment and what happens if the lot misses the specification
When a Thai file is the one to ask for
Ask Thailand when you need leaf, or a leaf powder cut, inside a document set built around the ONCB notice. Ask Thailand when you also want extract or private-label co-packing coordinated from the same desk, so the contents and the pack are one specification rather than two vendors who have never seen each other's paperwork. Bangkok freight, air or sea from Laem Chabang, is the logistics side. Transit estimates are on How to import kratom in bulk. They are estimates, not a claim that Thailand is always faster than Indonesia.
Ask for the other origin when your specification is a powder already built around that country's export file, and your quality system is used to it. We will not talk you out of a lawful supply we do not sell. We will tell you what we can document from Thailand.
Pricing is by volume and destination, by email, within 1 business day of a specification we can quote. Send it here.
